How to make v60 coffee

Equipment and Ingredients

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Set Up Your Equipment:

  1. Place the V60 dripper on top of your cup or carafe.

  2. Insert the V60 filter paper into the dripper.

Step 2: Rinse the Filter:
Use 80ml of your boiling water to rinse the filter which removes any paper taste and preheats the dripper and carafe. Discard the rinse water. Let the remaining water cool to its optimum temperature of

Step 3: Measure and Grind the Coffee:

  1. Weigh out your coffee beans. You'll need between 16g and 18g (1 coffee scoop) for one cup (220ml)

  2. We recommend grinding beans yourself, to ensure maximum taste and freshness. Grind the coffee beans to a medium-coarse consistency, similar to table granulated sugar.

Step 4: Add Coffee Grounds:
Place the ground coffee into the rinsed filter, leveling the grounds to ensure even extraction.

Step 5: Bloom:
Start your timer and pour just enough hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee grounds, so for 15 grams of coffee, use about 30 grams of water), wet all the grounds evenly. Let it bloom for about 30-45 seconds. This allows the coffee to degas and prepares it for better extraction.

Step 6: First Pour:
After the bloom, continue to pour water in a slow, circular motion, avoiding the sides of the filter. Pour up to about 60% of your total water volume.

Step 7: Subsequent Pours:

  1. Continue pouring in stages, allowing the water level to drop slightly between pours. Aim to keep the coffee bed evenly saturated.

  2. Pour until you've reached your desired total water weight approx 220g. This usually takes

Step 8: Complete the Brew:
Once all the water has passed through the coffee bed, your brew is complete. The total brew time should be around 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 9: Serve and Enjoy:

  1. Remove the V60 dripper and discard the used coffee grounds and filter.

  2. Pour the brewed coffee into your cup (if using a carafe) and enjoy your freshly brewed V60 coffee.

TIPS FOR A GREAT BREW

Consistent Grind:
Ensure your coffee grounds are uniform to promote even extraction.

Water Temperature:
Use water that is just off the boil to avoid scorching the coffee.

Even Pouring:
Pour steadily and evenly to prevent channeling and ensure all grounds are evenly extracted.

Adjust Ratios and Time:
Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio and grind size to find your preferred taste. Finer grinds require shorter brew times, and coarser grinds require longer brew times.

By following these steps and experimenting with different variables, you can perfect your V60 pour-over coffee technique to suit your taste preferences.
